Welcome to Tahoe Basin Photos.com.

I am excited to have the opportunity to share these pictures with you. I only have the ability to record events with a camera and a piece of glass. I need to decide the best time to trip the shutter and set the proper exposure. God’s crayon box is filled with an unending pallet He shows His glory in ever changing combinations of color and light.
It is my prayer that in some way these pictures will be a reminder that He is working daily in our lives.

  Tahoe Basin

Tahoe Basin covers a large area surrounding Lake Tahoe that provides and transfers water resources. Lake Tahoe receives water from melting snow on the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The water leaving Lake Tahoe flows down the Truckee River east through Reno ending up at Pyramid Lake north east of Reno. This is the North West corner of a large expanse of land called the Great Basin. It is an area with a variety of scenery, plant life, history and geologic features, presenting unending possibilities for photography.----<---more--->----

  Nevada

Nevada is a state of contradictions. It is a mountainous desert that is one of the most biologically diverse areas of the United States. Nevada has 160 named mountain masses that contain 31 peaks that are over 11,000 feet in elevation. Most of the beauty in Nevada is hidden in its interior far away from the major highways that cross it. As this site grows I hope to provide a photographic glimpse of the History and diversity in this part of the Great Basin. ----<---more--->----

  Coastal Inspirations

Each year I try to find a new photo adventure, in a place that is out of our normal area. In 2008 we picked a section of the California coast around Fort Bragg and Mendocino. It proved to be a great area to shoot a wide variety of pictures. The 47 acre Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, near Ft Bragg was a highlight. It has some great gardens and extends to the ocean. The sunsets and the fog were contrasts as we experienced the changing weather generated this close to the ocean. I hope you enjoy this photographic journey. ----<---more--->----

  Idaho 2008

Idaho 2008

In October of 2008 we took a trip into the central part of Idaho which we hadn’t explored. Lewiston is the largest city in this area and has the distinction of being Idaho’s only sea port. Tugs make there way up the Columbia river to the Snake and then to Lewiston to load there barges with wheat the main crop of this area. The Snake river starts in the Teton mountains of Wyoming it cuts across the Southern part of Idaho and then it turns north forming the border of Oregon and Idaho. At Lewiston it joins the Clearwater river which has its beginning in several smaller rivers with interesting names like, the Selway and the Lochsa. This river system drains the high mountain country of the largest primitive area in the United States. This was the route of Lewis and Cark and the home of the Nez Perce. It is a beautiful land that calls out for more exploration photographically and historically. I would like to share some of the pictures from a short week in 2008.

  The Flower Box

When it comes to color, flowers can even challenge the largest box of crayons. The variety in style, size, shape, and beauty is infinite. Flowers also provide opportunities to find thousands of insects and birds that flock to them for food and shelter which opens up a whole new world of photography. ----<---more--->----

Death Valley –A land of surprises

This desolate place is a National Park. Who would want to go to a place that is the hottest place in the country? This area is a study in contrast, 1000 species of plants grow in the land that looks bare and stark. Man has lived in this environment for over 1000 years. As we travel through this rugged, sparse environment we become captivated by what we find. These 20 plus pictures represent 2 days of exploration and capturing the diversity and variety of this American treasure. ----<---more--->----

Valley of Fire

Valley of Fire was dedicated as a Nevada State Park in 1935. The striking red sandstone formations present a different landscape. There are notes from its past in the form of ancient petroglyphs. In the spring your can find many species of desert wild flowers adding to the colors of the canyon walls. This group of pictures is a start in telling its story ----<---more--->----
